UAE Visit Visa Reform: Enhancing Integrity and Accessibility
Industry experts laud the UAE’s updated minimum salary thresholds for visit visa sponsorship, anticipating a significant reduction in residency violations and the proliferation of “absconding” cases.
The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has unveiled a refined regulatory framework regarding minimum salary requirements for visit visa sponsorship. This initiative is designed to attract bona fide visitors while bolstering national security measures.
Income Thresholds for Sponsorship
Effective as of September 29, the updated mandate requires residents to meet specific monthly income benchmarks to sponsor guests. The structure is as follows:
| Monthly Salary Requirement | Sponsorship Eligibility |
|---|---|
| Dh4,000 | First-degree relatives |
| Dh8,000 | Second- and third-degree relatives |
| Dh15,000 | Friends |
A Strategic Shift in Visa Administration
Sameer Bagul, Chief Business Officer at Cleartrip Arabia, characterizes these adjustments as a constructive evolution. By enabling residents to initiate visa applications directly through immigration channels, such as typing offices and Amer centres, the policy reduces the dependence on third-party travel agencies.
“This transition offers enhanced visibility and regulatory oversight,” Bagul remarked in an interview with Khaleej Times. “Previously, agencies often encountered friction, sometimes rejecting applications due to valid apprehensions regarding the potential misuse of entry permits and the subsequent liability of hefty fines.”
